Elderly Care Companion

DESCRIPTION

The Elderly Care Companion project is an interactive, scenario-based training simulation designed to build empathy, caregiving skills, and responsible behavior among learners. The module focuses on real-life situations where a caregiver supports elderly individuals with daily activities such as meal planning, dietary monitoring, safe medication handling, mobility assistance, and emotional companionship.

Developed through structured research on geriatric care practices and emotional intelligence in caregiving, the simulation integrates instructional design principles, story-based learning, and interactive decision-making to help learners practice empathy and patience in realistic settings. Each scenario encourages critical thinking, observation, and communication — essential employability skills for caregiving professions.

Learners navigate through day-to-day tasks like checking diet charts, ensuring hydration, offering emotional comfort, and responding to emergencies. The design ensures that each activity reinforces compassion, safety, and respect for elderly autonomy.

Developed after studying psychological needs of the elderly — focusing on dignity, comfort, and companionship.

Incorporated simulation-based learning models that allow mistakes and corrections within a safe virtual environment.

Tested with real user feedback to ensure accessibility, empathy learning, and cultural relevance.

🌈 Children’s (Learners’) Feelings After Playing

After completing the simulation, learners expressed feelings of empathy, care, and responsibility. Many shared that the experience made them reflect on how they treat older family members. They felt emotionally connected to the elderly characters, understanding their loneliness, struggles, and appreciation for small acts of kindness.

The learners described the experience as heartwarming, educational, and eye-opening, saying it helped them become more patient, observant, and compassionate in real life. For many, the project shifted their perspective — transforming caregiving from a routine task into an act of respect and love.
